Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
  • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
  • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
  • Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
  • Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
  • Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
  • Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
  • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
  • Assisting with meal services as required;
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
  • Previous experience working with seniors;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
  • Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (i.e.: Class 4; Class F).
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Principales responsabilités

  • Contribuer à la planification, à l’organisation et à la mise en œuvre de programmes enrichissants pour les résidents en collaboration avec la responsable des loisirs et la directrice générale.
  • Collaborer à la tenue de dossiers appropriés, y compris l’évaluation des activités et programmes et la collecte de renseignements à cet égard, notamment le nombre de participants, les niveaux de participation et la satisfaction des résidents.
  • Maintenir des communications efficaces et de bonnes relations avec les résidents, les familles, les bénévoles et le personnel d’autres services, les tenant au courant des événements en cours et à venir.
  • Suivre une formation en cours d’emploi pour rester au fait des tendances actuelles en matière de prise en charge globale des personnes âgées.
  • Participer aux réunions d’équipe pour planifier des programmes en gardant à l’esprit les intérêts des résidents.
  • Donner un coup de main aux résidents pour leurs sorties prévues.
  • Contribuer à l’évaluation du niveau d’activité des résidents.
  • Organiser, offrir et évaluer les activités quotidiennes.
  • Aider pendant les repas, au besoin.
  • Assumer les responsabilités associées à l’occupation d’un poste de confiance auprès des adultes vulnérables (résidents).
  • Respecter et promouvoir les valeurs et la philosophie de l’organisme notamment en ce qui concerne l'éthique, les valeurs morales et l’intégrité conformément au code de déontologie d’Extendicare.

Exigences

  • Diplôme d’études collégiales en services récréatifs, en loisirs, en gérontologie ou l’équivalent.
  • Expérience de travail auprès des personnes âgées.
  • Maîtrise des logiciels de la suite Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellentes aptitudes à la communication orale et écrite.
  • Dynamisme, compassion et disposition à travailler auprès des personnes âgées.
  • Permis de conduire provincial valide pour transporter les résidents en fourgonnette (p. ex. classe 4, catégorie F).
  • Vérification des antécédents en vue d’un travail auprès de personnes vulnérables (y compris une vérification de casier judiciaire) complète et valide (réalisée dans les six derniers mois) ou disposition à en obtenir une.
  • Maîtrise de l’anglais et du français.
