Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Assistant Regional Manager - Operations works closely with Regional Managers, Agents, and Site Managers across a geographically dispersed area implementing operational excellence through safe operating practices, enhancing efficiency, and protecting UFA’s assets, all while delivering exceptional customer service. Facilitating and guiding teams to execute strategic business plans and operational directives. The Assistant Regional Manager- Operations drives operational excellence and contributes to optimizing both financial and operational outcomes for UFA.
This position can be located anywhere in Central or Northern Alberta.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Consult with the Regional Manager- Operations on budget plans including setting sales and profit targets.
- Provide input to the Regional Manager- Operations to help shape business unit strategy and provides reliable forecasts for region.
- Participate in the development and implementation of UFA’s business plans that include growth targets and profitability, as well as implement merchandising initiatives directed through centralized merchandising team. Execute with Agents, Site Managers and teams.
- Assist to build high performance team with deliveries on ROIC targets by maximizing the operational efficiency of and returns from the operating assets and employees under their guidance.
- Lead a culture of safety through coaching, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure inventory is managed and protected in compliance with UFA inventory management standards and practices to ensure high levels of accuracy and minimal losses. Ensure the safeguarding of UFA’s assets to ensure quality customer service, operational efficiency, and optimal financial returns.
- Consult and direct Agents and Site Managers in the development, review, updating, and executions of business and operational plans and strategies.
- Collaborate with sales and service teams to ensure that destination products and services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
- Ensure that company policies, best practices, and certifications are implemented and consistently followed on an ongoing basis and in compliance with all Federal and Provincial Laws.
- Maintain contractual agreements with Agents. Manage the Agent relationship
- Represent UFA at community and co-operative events.
- Cover for Regional Manager- Operations in their absence.
Qualifications Required For The Position
- Post-secondary education in agriculture, business or management or related fields. Equivalent business experience of 7+ years in a progressive operational leadership role in customer service is required.
- Leadership experience characterized by innovation, creativity and ability to work co-operatively. Solid operation knowledge on Sales, Gross Margin, and Inventory Management processes.
- Agriculture and Downstream Fuel experience considered advantageous.
- Proven leadership skills which include successfully leading high performance teams. Track record of using accountability and performance metrics to drive the right behavior and business outcomes.
- Ability to travel and relocate as needed to support business needs in various locations.
- Experience in inventory management practices, loss prevention and replenishment.
- Comfortable working within and complying with safety certification, monitoring, and compliance programs.
- Proven track record with change management practices.
- Adept in setting clear, attainable, and measurable goals; uses coaching and feedback to ensure that results are in line with those goals.
- Superior organizational skills: ability to set priorities and maintain momentum on multiple initiatives through efficient and effective business planning.
- Solid critical thinking, analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite and SAP.
This is a safety sensitive position as will be on site at UFA facilities and will be using UFA material handling equipment. The successful applicant will be required to pass (negative result) a drug and alcohol screening test as a condition of employment.
