About this Role:
Employment status: Salaried, Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Location: 1600 16th Ave - Unit 1, Richmond Hill, Ontario
Reporting directly to the Manager of Partnership Development, the Grants and Partnership Development Writer will play a pivotal role in advancing Hope and Healing International’s mission by managing grants and contributing to major donor engagement efforts. This individual will have full responsibility for researching, crafting, and submitting compelling grant proposals and managing relationships with grant-making institutions, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Additionally, they will collaborate with Partnership Development Officers to support the development of tailored proposals and stewardship reports for major donors.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Grant Research & Strategy:
- Identify and research funding opportunities from government, foundations, corporations, and other grant-making institutions.
- Monitor funding trends, donor priorities, and sector best practices to align proposals with Hope and Healing International’s mission and strategic goals.
Grant Proposal Development:
- Write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of intent, and concept notes tailored to specific funder requirements.
- Collaborate with program and finance teams to create accurate and detailed grant budgets.
- Ensure proposals effectively communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and measurable impact.
Donor Proposal and Stewardship Writing (Major Donors):
- Collaborate with Partnership Development Officers to develop tailored proposals and stewardship reports for major donors, ensuring alignment with donor interests.
- Produce impactful 6-month interim updates and comprehensive 12-month stewardship reports, incorporating compelling stories, testimonials, and key metrics.
Grant Management & Reporting:
- Maintain and oversee a detailed grants calendar, tracking submission deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewal opportunities.
- Prepare and submit interim and final grant reports, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Organize and maintain a comprehensive library of grant-related records, including proposals, reports, and correspondence.
Relationship Management:
- Build and sustain strong relationships with grant-making institutions, ensuring funders feel valued and connected to the organization’s mission and impact.
- Act as the primary liaison for grantor communications, including responding to inquiries and providing project updates.
- Collaborate with Partnership Development Officers to support donor stewardship and engagement efforts.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal teams, including International Programs, Finance, and Marketing, to gather relevant data and information for grant proposals and stewardship materials.
- Contribute to the development of major donor-facing materials, ensuring consistency and alignment with Hope and Healing International’s brand and messaging.
- Performing other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
Our ideal candidate would have:
- Post-secondary degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in grant writing, donor communications, or fundraising.
- Demonstrated success in securing six- and seven-figure gifts through compelling proposals and stewardship efforts.
- Experience managing relationships with grant-making institutions, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Familiarity with the nonprofit sector, particularly in international development or disability-focused organizations, is an asset.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences.
- Strong ability to synthesize complex technical or financial information into clear, impactful donor communications.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Creative and innovative thinker with the ability to adapt to changing donor priorities and organizational needs.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, particularly with grantors and major donors.
- High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity.
- Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with design tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, or similar software is an asset.
Working conditions and other requirements:
- Hybrid work model: Work from home for part of the work week, with the option to work from home otherwise.
- Occasional overseas travel required to support program understanding, proposal development, and donor engagement.
