About the role:
As the Community Liaison Officer, you’ll support a critical part of the Community Team that delivers community strategy for Drax Group in Canada. Within this role, you’ll help to build trust, and support the delivery of business objectives in Drax’s operating communities in northern BC, interior BC, and Alberta.
You’ll be responsible for promoting strong and effective communications and relationships between Drax and the local community, including participation in a local Community Advisory Panel. You will proactively build relationships with local community leaders, non-profit organizations, and traditionally under-represented voices within our operating communities. You will also be the first point of contact for a range of community enquiries.
As part of this role, you will work cross-functionally with our Sustainability and Corporate Affairs teams, including the Communications and International Affairs teams, to ensure close alignment of community engagement agendas. You will also work closely with the wider Community team and other Community Liaison Officers.
In addition, you’ll work with the Operations team members to address community concerns related to local plant operations. Coordinate with various internal teams to ensure a unified approach to community relations and corporate social responsibility efforts.

- Community Engagement: act as a bridge between the organization and the local community, fostering positive relationships, and maintaining a strong presence within the community.
- Communication: facilitate effective communication between community members and the organization, conveying information, updates, and resources in a clear and accessible manner.
- Needs Assessment: collaborate with community partners to identify their needs, challenges, and aspirations, and communicate these insights within Drax to inform program development and improvements.
- Resource Referral: provide information and referrals to community members seeking assistance or resources, connecting them with appropriate services or programs both within Drax's.
- Event Coordination: plan and organize community events, and meetings that promote Drax's community engagement, grant opportunities, and brand awareness.
- Data Collection: gather and maintain data on community demographics, concerns, and feedback to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Collaboration: collaborate with local community organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to identify opportunities for partnership and collaboration on community initiatives.
- Communication Skills: excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse community members and present information effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to find creative solutions to community challenges.
- Cultural Competence: sensitivity to cultural diversity and an understanding of how cultural factors may impact community dynamics and interactions.
- Organizational Skills: effective organizational and time management skills to plan and execute community events and initiatives.
- Networking: strong networking abilities to connect with community leaders, organizations, and resources.
- Computer Skills: proficiency in basic computer applications and the ability to use digital tools for communication and data collection.
- Local Knowledge: familiarity with the local community, its demographics, and the social and economic challenges it faces.
