The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is seeking an energetic, responsible and highly motivated person to work as a part-time cook at the Regina Men’s Reintegration Unit, which is a fourteen-bed unit for housing sentenced offenders. The reintegration unit houses individuals in conflict with the law in order to facilitate their responsible release back into the community.
This part-time position has no guarantee of hours; although core work hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position will be used to back-fill the current part-time cook for entitlement usage.
Significant experience in the cooking field is required. The successful candidate will possess a recent Safe Food Handling Certificate and have demonstrated experience in preparing and cooking meals for large numbers of people.
Responsibilities
- Planning, prepare and serve evening meals and ensure that food is available for daily lunches and weekend meals, along with baking;
- Maintain kitchen, dining area, food preparation equipment and food storage areas in a clean and sanitary condition;
- Maintain food inventories and ensuring the efficient use of stock;
- General clean-up including washing dishes, complete cleaning and sanitizing of all work surfaces and equipment on a regular basis;
- Ordering and receiving food and supply delivery orders, stocking the kitchen and storage room and maintaining records of inventory for food services;
- Monitoring the food supplies in the storage room to ensure inventory levels are maintained;
- Interacting with residents, staff, visitors and the general public.
