Description

The Facilities Management is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Caretaker for approximately 3 months. The Caretaking department is responsible for ensuring that building structures and systems for all University owned and leased properties are cleaned and maintained in a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective manner to ensure a safe and comfortable work environment for campus users.

It provides professional cleaning services to various campus spaces, including but not limited to, corridors, washrooms, classrooms, and offices, with set schedules for cleaning. The portfolio includes waste and recycling removal, window cleaning, and other maintenance tasks. Work is performed on a 24-hour basis, 365 days a year, requiring caretakers to be available for various shifts.

Supervision is provided by an in-scope Supervisor and/or Lead Hand, and the position is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit. Duties involve heavy lifting, working with ladders, and potential exposure to hazardous materials. Staff are required to maintain confidentiality, report repairs and security risks, and adhere to established cleaning standards.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas according to team cleaning standards.
• Report maintenance, security, or safety issues to the supervisor.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Participate in training and development initiatives.
• Adhere to safety practices and University policies.

Custodial Duties

• Full cleaning of washrooms and showers.
• Cleaning of offices and classrooms.
• Removing waste and recycling.
• Mopping, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning.
• Cleaning of elevator interiors and doors.
• Dusting surfaces at various heights.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Minimum education equivalent to Grade completion.
• Good physical health and stamina for lifting and repetitive tasks.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Basic understanding of English and ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience working in a team and providing customer service.
