Please note this position is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Candidates must be located in Manitoba or able to relocate to the province. Full remote work will not be available.

The Communications and Engagement Division (CED) leads high-quality communications and engagement policy and practice across government and provides communications and engagement services to government departments and Crown agencies, including strategic communications planning, public information and consultation, employee communications and engagement, media engagement and support, media planning and purchasing, and central contact centre operations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be fluently bilingual in both French and English
  • Ability to work outside regular office hours as required

Qualifications: Essential:

  • Successful completion of a degree in translation. A combination of a degree in a related discipline and relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Previous experience translating and revising in a wide variety of subject areas
  • Excellent written communication skills in French
  • Strong written communication skills in English
  • Strong verbal communication skills in French
  • Strong verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to adapt to unforeseen changes in schedule and interruptions, establish priorities, and meet deadlines within tight timeframes
  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build and maintain good working relationships and tactfully interact with others
  • Experience using translation memory software/computer assisted translation tools
Desired:
  • Experience working with a terminology database
  • Membership in an association affiliated with the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council or the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec

Duties:
Working with the Communications and Engagement Division, the Translator provides French translation of a variety of English texts to support efforts to ensure corporate information is published simultaneously in both official languages. Types of documents include news releases, advertising and promotional materials, and corporate website information.
