School Health Facilitator

The School Health Facilitator collaborates with key stakeholders to create environments in school communities that are supportive of healthy life choices. This role involves liaising with and providing leadership to all members of the school community including school administrators, staff, students, parents, elders, cultural leaders, and other relevant groups or individuals. The position facilitates a shared leadership model to implement, evaluate, and celebrate Comprehensive School Health through planned goals and actions developed by the school community.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Promote health in the school environment emphasizing healthy eating, active living, and positive social behaviours.
- Help form school health committees to create, review, and revise the school’s action plan for implementing Comprehensive School Health (CSH).
- Facilitate implementation of the school’s action plan by engaging the school community.
- Develop, implement, and review school wellness policies and guidelines.
- Organize resources, classroom activities, and professional development to support quality student learning and leadership experiences related to healthy eating, physical activity, and mental well-being with a cultural perspective.
- Support teachers to help students meet curricular outcomes and ensure Indigenous culture is infused through curricula.
- Facilitate student-led programs and student leadership development.
- Collaborate with school administrators to engage staff in planning, delivering, and evaluating the project.
- Facilitate coordination of healthy whole-school events and community projects.
- Role model healthy behaviours for staff, parents, students, and community members.
- Work as a team member with other School Health Facilitators, School Health Champions, and APPLE Schools staff, including planning and attending meetings, planning and attending professional development, and sharing resources.
- Complete administrative functions such as action plans, budgets, financial reports, etc. Ensure funds are spent in compliance with Division and APPLE Schools guidelines.
Qualifications and skills:
- An undergraduate degree in health promotion, nutrition, physical education, recreation, education, health education, or a related area is preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in health promotion, education, physical activity, or nutrition education.
- Knowledge of Comprehensive School Health (CSH) is an asset.
- Knowledge of current curricula or resources related to healthy schools.
- Knowledge of current community resources, supports, culture, and traditions.
- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
