Indigenous Youth Engagement Support Worker
School District #41 (Burnaby)
Temporary part-time position (ASAP to return of incumbent) for 27.5 hours/week. The Burnaby School District seeks an enthusiastic individual to join the Indigenous Youth Engagement Support team, mentoring and supporting Indigenous youth to access district and community support programs.
Duties:
- Provides outreach, mentoring, and support to vulnerable Indigenous youth and their families.
- Collaborates with school-based staff, District educational teams, and community partners in designing, implementing, and monitoring targeted intervention/prevention programs.
- Encourages parental involvement and works with school staff and parents to develop plans for students needing support outside the school.
- Advocates for students and families in educational planning, including attending School Based Team meetings.
- Facilitates partnerships to refer students to appropriate agencies and community resources.
Applicants must possess:
- Post-secondary degree in human relations, community and cultural relations, or social sciences.
- Two years' experience in community and cultural relations or a relevant field.
- Thorough knowledge of Indigenous cultures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability in employing preventative or intervening behavior management strategies.
- Valid B.C. Driver's License (Class 5).
