We are seeking a Loss Prevention Technician to join the Emergency Services and Security department located at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. In this role, you will provide emergency services to the Joffre Site and surrounding communities' people, environment and assets.


You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Provide shift leadership to contract site security and dispatch
  • Lead site response team members during incidents
  • Perform fire and safety systems inspections and audits, including maintaining and issuing breathing apparatus and specialized personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Provide tactical leadership while responding to fire, medical, hazardous materials and rescue incidents
  • Actively participate in reviewing business unit emergency response plans and assist with emergency operations
  • Interface with site and community stakeholders
  • Provide instruction on response programs and safety leadership, coordinate response teams and actively participate in site drills
  • Support site operations through managing of impairments, development of rescue plans and issuing of permits in area of responsibility
  • Be responsible for operation of the site fire water system, continuity, availability and supply


What We Are Looking For:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics is required
  • NFPA 1001 level 2 with Proboard / IFSAC seal is required
  • A valid Alberta Driver's License Class 3 and Class 4 with a Q air brake endorsement is required
  • Demonstrated commitment to Responsible Care and alignment with NOVA's values
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork capabilities
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, decision making, communication and analytic skills


Additional Qualifications/Experience Considered an Asset:

  • Experience working in a hydrocarbon processing facility
  • NFPA 1002 certification
  • NFPA 472 Technician, NFPA 1006 Rope Technician and/or NFPA 1006 Confined Space
  • NFPA 1031 / 1033 with the ability to register as a safety codes officer in Alberta
  • Experience working with fixed fire protection systems
  • Experience as a front-line emergency response leader
  • Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector check to obtain a security license from the Alberta Solicitor General

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • This is a 12-hour rotating shift position
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
