Job Summary:
The Information Services team leads integral corporate services and platforms that are used by all our companies as well as by corporate leaders. The team provides IT, Data Security, Governance, Digital Workplace, and Corporate Data services, and we are looking for someone to oversee the Corporate Data collation and analytics, and help define data governance.

Overview of role
The Data Lead is a new role and the successful candidate will work with stakeholders and data owners in applying strong and consistent data management techniques along with sound data insights, you will aid in the decision making capabilities, enhanced with our use of AI/ML in and around applications. You will help us to align our data and AI strategy with the organization’s goals ensuring that we can deliver business value for technologies, tools, and services.

You are passionate about solving complex data and analytical problems, making the most of available technologies and integrating new technologies and approaches, such as AI and ML.

In this role, you are hands-on and balance the priorities of creating meaningful analysis with taking a lead role in delivering advisory services to our extended team of high growth organizations, working with data analysts, software developers, information designers, and business/industry leaders. You will coordinate with other corporate functions within Information Services, as well as Corporate Knowledge, HR, Finance, and M&A to gather relevant data types and deliver on our shared goals and vision.

The preferred location for this role is the Greater Toronto area as our main office is in Mississauga, ON.

Skills & experience

  • 5+ years relevant work experience with applying analytics or working with data in any industry but experience with software businesses is an asset
  • Significant experience in data/statistical analysis and techniques, data mining and structured/unstructured data integrations
  • Leadership or management experience including project management in analytical or data driven field
  • Database and programming languages experience
  • Experience with optimization modelling, machine learning, forecasting and/or natural language processing
  • Ability to understand business significance of the data, work with data with significant ambiguity, develop creative approaches to analytical problems, and interpret data and results from a business/industry perspective
  • Create repeatable processes and accurate data search criteria honouring complex and granular access control lists for onward self-service
  • Professional services, consulting, or advisory experience is an asset
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities & types of tasks

  • Lead data projects and provide advisory services end-to-end, from requirements, to experiments, to implementation and final delivery, along with sustaining activities.
  • Enhance data collection procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems.
  • Make appropriate decisions about model selection and ensure quality and delivery of data, and associated data ETL, statistical models, and computations. Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers.
  • Work with colleagues to source and manage large amounts of structured and unstructured data on a granular level.
  • Lead planned and ad-hoc analysis projects as part of a technical/architecture expert team, and as a primary link between technical and business stakeholders.
  • Help define clear objectives and foster a collaborative and productive work environment for the data practice.
  • Participate in strategic planning by identifying opportunities where data science can add value, defining project scopes, and ensuring timely delivery of data-driven solutions.
  • Contribute to broader governance and policy development related to data capture and sourcing. Comply with appropriate governance and regulatory policies in place.
  • Participate in professional development programs and providing content to knowledge sharing programs. Lead or contribute to communities of practice.
  • Stay on top of the latest developments in data science, technology, tools, and methodologies.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 – 140,000, and individuals may be eligible to participate in our bonus program. We offer competitive benefits and numerous opportunities for learning. Some travel will be required.
