Department/Unit Community Health & Epidemiology

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is seeking highly motivated candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellowship. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Alexa Yakubovich and the Violence Against Women Research Team, focusing on strengthening systems responses to violence against women and gender diverse people. The team collaborates with community, practice, and policy partners using various methods to understand burdens of violence and evaluate intervention and policy responses. Over the next five years, the work will involve designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies that strengthen health systems responses to violence in Canada. Under the supervision of Dr. Yakubovich, the Fellow will lead studies, including data collection, management, and analysis, along with manuscript, report, and presentation preparation. The role includes intervention research, implementation science, and mixed methods projects. The candidate will receive support for competitive postdoctoral fellowships.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support and manage research activities, including designing research protocols and evaluation strategies.
  • Conduct participant recruitment, surveys, and interviews, and engage non-academic partners.
  • Perform qualitative data analysis, including coding and thematic framework development.
  • Perform quantitative data analysis, including cleaning data and running statistics.
  • Prepare knowledge translation outputs, including academic papers and presentations.
  • Collaborate with research staff and trainees on the project.
  • Prepare grant and fellowship applications.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in health or social sciences by appointment start.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience in academic research with leadership responsibilities.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience managing resources.
  • Experience in implementation science or intervention research.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative analytic software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals in health or social sciences.

Assets:

  • Mixed-methods research skills.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Experience in partnership-based research.
  • Interest in preventing violence against women and promoting gender equity.
