The Opportunity
RVS invites applications for a temporary, part-time Learning Assistant (21 hours/week) and Receptionist (7.5 hours/week) position starting immediately until June 27, 2025 at Westbrook School. Westbrook School is located in the Town of Cochrane, and serves students from grades K-8. Please note the successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of both positions as indicated below:
Learning Assistant Position
The Learning Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom, school, and community settings throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS). Reporting to the Principal, the Learning Assistant collaborates with teachers to adapt and implement programs for students with complex needs, with a focus on promoting their health, learning, and independence.
Responsibilities Include
Provides assistance to students as identified in their individualized plans including those students
who require additional types of supports such as personal, medical care, and safety needs
Implements and reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher(s) and identified in student
Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), Individualized Program Plans (IPP), Behaviour Support Plans
(BSP), safety plans, and medical plans, in programming for the diverse needs of students
Records observations and other data on behavioral challenges and creates records that can be
used to support positive behavior strategies for students
Participates in collaborative planning meetings for IPP’s or SSP’s as requested
Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of
the classroom teacher/student support teacher
Actively promotes student learning and independence
Facilitates interaction among students with special needs and their peers
Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of information related to students and personnel
Supports students with routine personal care activities such as toileting, movement, personal
hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding
Assists in exercising, adaptive physical education, range of motion programs and fine and gross
motor skills development as directed by a specialist and monitored by a teacher
Supports students’ medical needs as directed, including assisting the student with transfers, tube
feeding and managing tracheotomy needs, oxygen, catheterization, administration of prescription
Medication, And Other Routine Medical Requirements
Education/Experience
Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field
Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified
Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying
positive behavior supports is considered and asset
CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in
a timely manner
Demonstrated ability to carry out the plans and directions of teaching staff to assist students
Ability to build and maintain rapport with students and staff
Ability to adapt to dynamic situations, while successfully managing a high level of stress
Ability to work effectively in collaborative team settings
Excellent multi-tasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of child development
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
Salary Range for Learning Assistant: $23.87-$28.99 hourly rate
Receptionist Position
The Receptionist - Schools performs a variety of clerical and support functions to support school staff, students, parents, and community members across Rocky View Schools (RVS) as the frontline person for their school. Reporting to the Principal, the Receptionist - Schools provides excellent service to callers and visitors, supports the maintenance of accurate student records, and provides administrative support as assigned.
Responsibilities Include
Provides excellent service to school staff, students and the public, including answering and
directing phone calls in a courteous and professional manner
Greets substitute teachers and substitute support staff and provides necessary resources
Prepares, distributes, collects, and categorizes various school forms
Accepts, distributes and expedites mail, couriered, and delivered items
Collaborates with team members to identify efficient work flow in the school office
Completes a variety of clerical duties in a fast-paced work environment by assigned
deadlines
Supervises students in the infirmary
Supports the professionalism and confidentiality of the school office
Supports the administration of the community rental of the school/facility as required
Supports student attendance as required
Responds to and redirects emails from the school generic email as required
Organizes and facilitates school announcements as required
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Administrative Professional Diploma or Certificate is considered an asset
Previous experience within a school division and/or with Student Information Records
Systems is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
Knowledge/Skills
Outstanding communication and customer service skills
Strong organizational and prioritization skills
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external
clients
Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally
and in a timely manner
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal
supervision
Ability to think critically and deal with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Salary Range for Receptionist: $20.64-$25.10 hourly rate
