Your Opportunity:

This 1.0 FTE Pediatric Dietitian I position, will be one of two pediatric positions at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC), reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Manager, Pediatrics & Mental Health, Calgary Zone. This Pediatric Dietitian I is responsible for direct client and family care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Inpatient Unit and for the Pediatric Nutrition Outpatient Service at the PLC. This Dietitian I provides nutrition consultation for neonates, infants, and children for a variety of nutritional challenges; including, but not limited to, consultation & care planning for nutrition support via enteral and parenteral means, oral supplementation, optimizing growth and development, feeding difficulties and pediatric nutrition concerns. This Dietitian I is an integral member of multidisciplinary teams including the NICU dietitian team in the Calgary Zone and collaborates with and/or provides support for the team as required. This dietitian has a strong background in providing & leading evidence-informed nutrition care, is skilled in the use of nutrition support, providing nutrition counselling with a strong family centered care approach and working with diverse populations. The dietitian will play an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing, and medical staff to ensure the delivery of consistent, accurate, evidence-based nutrition information. Responsibilities will also include participation on zone and/or provincial NS committees and/or research projects as required for meeting Provincial NS Child Health Strategy & Standards targets.

Description:

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence-based nutrition information.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe Parenteral Nutrition 10 (1) (c). Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe a Schedule 1 Drug 10 (1) (d). Minimum three or more years of experience in pediatric clinical nutrition required. Strong understanding of infant and childhood nutrition and developmental feeding behaviors; including breastfeeding. Experience with & knowledge of nutrition care, using all modalities, for complex pediatric & neonatal medical diagnoses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality nutrition service in a family-centered care model. Demonstrated ability to work effectively & efficiently within changing multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Demonstrated behavioral counselling, and other feeding related therapies, skill set. Computer skills are proficient for Microsoft Office & ability to learn different applications or programs as required.
