The Merchant designs, develops, and executes strategies for medium-complexity categories, achieving profit and loss deliverables and selling products customers want at unbeatable prices.

What You Will Do

1. Accountable for all aspects of merchandise profit and loss management, ensuring forecasts, sales, markdowns, co-op collection, market share growth, gross profit, and inventory targets are met. Communicates results to cross-functional partners.
2. Develop category strategies that align with the merchant framework through data source reviews. Conduct assortment analysis and make decisions on priority sub-categories, vendor optimization, and price ladders. Visit stores to build category strategy.
3. Initiate, negotiate and manage vendor agreements and maintain vendor relationships.
4. Responsible for all aspects of marketing for the category, including online space planning and media execution. Ensure accuracy of final media outputs.
5. Accountable for new item and promotional forecasts, managing markdowns/markups and developing exit strategies.
6. Prepare and lead line reviews, conduct modular walkthroughs with management for sign-off, and create store communication for execution.
7. Attend trade shows and buying trips to enhance innovation and product categories.
8. Provide coaching and direction to Category Team Analysts and mentor other merchants as required.

Qualifications

• College Diploma or Certificate
• 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar buyer or category manager role
• Retail industry experience is preferred
• Strong commodity knowledge and negotiation skills
