Job Description
The Associate Technical Application Specialist is responsible for the support, quotation, order write up and application for S&C products, under minimal supervision. They are also the main contact for customers, district managers and provide assistance to team members in such areas as product knowledge, production process, departmental procedures and process.
Duties & Responsibilities
Normal or frequent minor physical effort required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. May involve standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 5kg/11lbs
Travel: Occasional travel may be required for site visit with outside sales
Ability to Work From Home: Yes – Hybrid, in office one day a week

The Associate Technical Application Specialist is responsible for the support, quotation, order write up and application for S&C products, under minimal supervision. They are also the main contact for customers, district managers and provide assistance to team members in such areas as product knowledge, production process, departmental procedures and process.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Interpret customer specifications and single-line diagrams of transmission and distribution level systems and provide technical knowledge and timely responses regarding technical, application and commercial questions to customers and district managers applying S&C protection devices.
- Review conditions of service documents for power utilities in Canada to understand service entrance equipment requirements.
- Provide pre-sales support to help potential clients in resolving their problems and creating solutions.
- Act as the liaison between internal Product Engineers, Power System Services Engineers, Order Management and outside Sales Engineers to offer selling solutions directly to district managers and customers.
- Respond to and provide information to internal and external clients by telephone, written communication, or in person.
- Prepare technical proposals including products, services, and pricing strategies.
- Coordinate project requirements from order entry to shipping.
- Review customer approval drawings and follow up on the implementation of design change requests.
- Basic Electrical & Protection Engineering performing various calculations, including available fault current analysis and fuse curve coordination.
- Participate in customer site visits & meetings to understand the
- constraints required to accurately design switchgear layout.
- Learn and recommend protection for medium voltage systems consisting of substation transformers, busses and feeders
- B. Eng in Electrical Engineering or B.Tech for Power Systems Engineering
- 0-2 years’ practical experience in application engineering systems or technical sales support.
- Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution, Generation and Transmission.
- Knowledge of Power Systems to support the utility market and commercial and industrial market.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability to perform complex problem solving and evaluation of alternatives in independent and collaborative situations.
- Working knowledge of Citrix, AutoCAD, Microstation, Oracle EBS, and SalesForce are an asset.
- Ability to comprehend electric schematic drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of power system protection & control applications for medium and/or high voltage electrical distribution
- Excellent time management, communication, and organization skills
- Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
