Our Supply, Trading and Optimization group is Suncor’s face to energy commodity markets and is expanding the current crude, refined products, natural gas, power and environmental products trading platform with a focus on enhancing the optimization and trading activities supporting a significant and growing international footprint. Currently, Suncor has Supply, Trading and Optimization offices in Calgary, London, and Houston.

We are looking for an individual with Middle Office and Commodity Risk Management experience in crude, refined products, LPG, Natural Gas, or Power to join our global Middle Office Risk team based in Calgary, AB, Canada. The Pricing Advisor role plays a critical part in ensuring our pricing inputs, outputs and processes are conducted with transparency and falls in line with our Risk Management framework and associated policies.

As a Pricing Analyst at Suncor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of pricing data for a variety of commodities. This position requires a high level of precision and expertise in market analysis, data verification, and stakeholder communication. You will be responsible for managing and responding to complex pricing inquiries, performing thorough investigations, and providing detailed responses under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze key benchmark prices in the industry for a range of products and commodities.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of pricing data by verifying input and calculation methods.
  • Address missing or incorrect price data promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal impact on daily operations.
  • Utilize our curve builders and ETRM systems to set up, configure, manage and analyze pricing data.
  • Communicate with multiple stakeholders, providing detailed and well-researched responses to inquiries about pricing mechanisms and calculations.
  • Manage high volumes of inquiries in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and maintaining detailed documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to handle pricing emergencies and corrections.
  • Collaborate with commercial and other functions to support the significant growth of new business initiatives.
  • Balance independent reporting and control duties with a business partnering and commercial enabling approach.
  • Perform other duties including extensive cross-functional project work, automations, and audit support.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of physical and financial energy markets in respective commodity area.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Four years+ of relevant experience, preferably in Commodity trading (Front, Middle, or Back Office capacity)
  • Good understanding of commodity risk management, including derivatives, physical crude and refined product markets, trading cycle, risk metrics (VAR, Stop Loss, Stress Testing), physical oil and refined product markets (terminologies, contracts, data, fundamentals)
  • Proficiency in Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems, experience with Commodity Trading Risk Management systems (e.g. TriplePoint CXL, Allegro, Open Link)
  • Deep knowledge of the physical oil and refined product markets (terminologies, contracts, data, fundamentals)
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in transaction and portfolio monitoring
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively handle inquiries and report findings
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a dynamic, process-intensive environment
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Availability to work non-standard hours and on Canadian holidays as required
  • Experience in managing high-stress situations and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently
  • University Degree, preferably Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Computer Science


  • Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

    • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
    • This is an in office role, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, availability to work non-standard hours and on Canadian holidays as required
    • You will work in an open trading floor environment
    • Your work schedule will mirror US, UK, and/or Canadian trading day environments, which may require working some Canadian holidays with a day taken in lieu
