JOB SUMMARY
This position manages human resources activities to support Celeros Flow Technology’s manufacturing facility in Burlington, ON and service operations in Calgary, AL. Responsibilities of the HR Business Partner will include, but are not limited to employment, employee relations, labor relations, performance management, communications, policy and procedure development & compliance, compensation, benefits, training, and employee services to meet strategic HR and company objectives. The primary focus of this position will be to provide full-range HR support to site leaders, operations managers & supervisors, talent and performance management, and employee services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administration and delivery of human resources policies and procedures to ensure people managers have the appropriate tools that enable their teams to meet their objectives
- Provide functional / operational management with assistance in identifying, evaluating, and resolving work performance gaps or staffing needs
- Advise and assist managers in preparing disciplinary documentation, performance improvement action plans, and grievance and appeal responses. Analyze facts and provide guidance, recommendations and resolutions to managers and employees
- Labor Relations responsibilities include managing the relationship with Teamsters Canada and participating in the development and negotiation of bargaining agreements, facilitating change in agreements to enable achievement of business goals, facilitating ongoing relationships with internal and external union leadership, administering grievance procedure and supporting manufacturing leadership regarding corrective discipline actions.
- Represent company with government agencies with respect to unionized workforce including Ministry of Labor, Employment Standards branch.
- Provide program management and administration for Celeros FT Talent Management programs, specifically the Talent Review process, while developing and executing in-house manager/employee leadership training, and employee development initiatives.
- Supports HR Operations with Canada-wide employment related health, disability and retirement benefit programs through service providers and third-party brokers, ensuring compliance with company policies, current collective agreements and industry patterns and practices.
- Actively participate in administering enrollment, change and termination of participation in various plans, submit required documentation and communicate changes due to short or long-term disability, retirement, or termination.
- Manage Performance Management Process, including goal deployment process, ensuring all salaried employees have performance plans and reviews, coaching managers on review documentation, and training on new performance plan development.
- Provide employee relations support to site management and employees to ensure complaints, discipline, performance management, and corrective action procedures are handled fairly, consistently, and legally compliant.
- Support the planning and delivery of the end of year performance and reward cycles.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) in Ontario and Workers Compensation Board Alberta reporting and procedural requirements.
- Update and maintain group HR trackers.
- Identify or generate reports as needed to provide management information to operational leaders.
- Play a key role in ensuring working procedures comply with laws and regulations; stay abreast of laws and regulations through professional reading and internal counsel.
- Work on HR projects to optimise the HR proposition and service delivery.
- Analyse Employee Engagement Trends from annual surveys and support facilitation of improvements with management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Advanced knowledge of Canadian labor laws and hiring best practices
- Experience supporting manufacturing facilities
- Experience working with union leadership preferred
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, demanding environment
- Self-directed with excellent initiative and organisational skills
- Strong ability to handle multiple demands with urgency and energy
- Proficient in MS products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Demonstrated ability in creative problem-solving and project management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3 -5 years’ experience in a Human Resources Business Partner or Generalist role required
- Strong understanding of Human Resource concepts, practices, and procedures
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Manufacturing experience in a Union environment preferred
