Operational Underwriting Team Leader

We have an outstanding opportunity in our Aviva Business Operations in Edmonton or Calgary for a dynamic and experienced leader. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will have the chance to leave a lasting legacy and significantly impact our employee development and customer experience.
You will lead a commercial team of skilled Service Support Assistants, offering guidance and mentorship. Your responsibilities include career development within the team, monitoring, and measuring performance, collaborating on team and branch goals, and implementing various strategies. As the leader, you will ensure that the team's quality and service standards meet or exceed corporate and branch objectives.
What You’ll Do:
- Foster a culture where every team member prioritizes the needs and satisfaction of customers in their daily activities
- Anticipate needs and potential issues, addressing them proactively to prevent problems before they arise
- Develop strong, trust-based relationships with customers by consistently delivering on promises and demonstrating reliability and integrity
- Equip team members with the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to effectively serve customers and resolve issues efficiently
- Continuously explore and implement innovative approaches to improve customer service and experience
- You will help kill complexity by striving for continuous efficiency and improvement
- You will direct and motivate your staff by communicating clearly and engaging them through regular team huddles and meetings
- You will strive for continuous professional growth by seeking learning and understanding and sharing amongst reports and peers
What you will bring:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership position or related responsibilities
- Experience in commercial underwriting would be considered an asset
- Proven and demonstrable leadership abilities
- Good business insights and real passion for relationship management
- Ability to develop strong business relationships, externally with brokers and internally with other areas of Aviva
- Strong organizational skills showing attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Operational organization, including the ability to understand numbers and create metrics that measure outcomes
- Exceptional communication skills and confidence delivering sometimes unpopular messages
- Experience with Aviva systems would be considered an asset
- Post-Secondary education or equivalent practical experience
- Successful completion of the Insurance Institute CIP certification, or in progress is ideal
