Responsibilities
Practice Support and Development
- A flexible in-office presence is required.
- Oversee and proactively manage upcoming deadlines and work requirements with the Partner(s), ensuring the flow of work is maintained to meet deadlines.
- Maintain excellent communication and workflow between Partners and staff, participate in team meetings and use MS Teams to track progress, share information and facilitate collaboration on working files with internal teams and external parties.
- Format, edit, and assist in creating client/stakeholder correspondence, presentations, proposals, reports, and spreadsheets.
- Create, modify and prepare templates, letters, reports, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, Excel workbooks and other correspondence materials; research, compile and summarize information/data.
- Track and enter time in our internal MNP’s practice management (MPM) platform for detailed supporting documentation for billing.
- Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
- Utilize AI tools within company standards and proactively seek opportunities to enhance efficiency.
- Support business development initiatives by attending industry/firm events, monitoring industry best practices, contributing to weekly team meetings, and supporting internal marketing initiatives.
Execution of Engagements
- Administration of insolvency proceedings, including preparation and filing of statutory and other documents related to mandates under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, Companies’ Creditors Agreement Act, Business Corporations Acts (provincial and federal), etc.
- Assist in the drafting of various reports in compliance with relevant legislation;
- Preparation and filing of the Wage Earner Protection Plan (WEPP) related documents.
- Preparing notices and letters from templates for creditor mailings, government registries, final notices to creditors, affidavits, and other documents using Ascend.
- Manage client and stakeholder interactions when required, and handle correspondence and inquiries in a professional and efficient manner, including communications with the Canada Revenue Agency, financial institutions, and various stakeholders.
- Manage other support functions related to engagements, such as arranging insurance, participating in accounts receivable collections, financial reporting;
- Prepare cheque requisitions and deposit vouchers, and facilitate approval processes.
- Receive and review Proof of Claims (POC) and update records in Ascend insolvency software.
- Create repository outlines from templates and manage site content for multiple files using Site Core/Firmex platforms.
- Attend creditor and Inspectors’ meetings, and record minutes.
- Perform a general file review to ensure all outstanding matters are dealt with prior to assigning a file to closeout.
- Undertake the close out of statutory engagements by preparing and filing Final Statements, court documents, notices to creditors, and mailing/e-filing such documents.
- Regularly monitor required and statutory reporting and filings and prepare for and facilitate regulatory audits.
Skills and Experience
- Maintain a positive attitude towards internal and external clients.
- Strong client service focus in dealing with both external and internal teams, displaying an image of professionalism, discretion, integrity and tact.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the capability to manage multiple engagements concurrently and prioritize tasks efficiently;
- A basic knowledge of insolvency and restructuring is required
- Experience using Ascend or other related Insolvency software is required.
- Previous experience working in a professional services firm is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly report on progress, communicate needs and work collaboratively with other team members and leadership.
- Must be able to manage and be accountable to commitments and deadlines.
- Advanced to Expert skill level with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel and MS Teams.
- Confidence in ability to learn and work in a highly technical and ever-changing work environment.
- Maintain flexibility to hours worked to support timely completion of deliverables.
