Are you a skilled and motivated Environmental or Civil Engineering Engineer or Technologist/Technician with a passion for sustainable waste management solutions? Burnside is actively seeking a dynamic professional to join our growing solid waste management team, based in our Pickering office.

The Role

Duties

This position is focused on planning, engineering (design) and monitoring of waste management systems. The role will also involve waste management master plans, Environmental Assessment, diversion and disposal strategies. This position will include a variety of duties, such as:

  • Preparing proposals, assessments, designs, tenders and project reports;
  • Regulatory agency communications and application processes;
  • Waste systems planning, design, permitting and implementation;
  • Site monitoring and operational training; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge & Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering Degree OR Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Technology-related education
  • Strong technical skills using MS Office 365, with an aptitude for MS Excel
  • Proficient mathematical and analytical skills
  • The ability to work on a number of projects concurrently
  • Strong time management, organization and facilitation skills
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel between Burnside offices and to Client sites

The Following Are Considered Assets/beneficial

  • Experience in solid waste management is ideal
  • Experience working for a consulting engineering firm is an asset
  • Familiarity with composting, recycling and waste processing/transfer equipment and facilities
  • Knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations
  • Experience designing or constructing surface water systems, roads and structures
  • Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • An understanding of contaminant hydrogeology
