Overall Accountability
The Career Practitioner provides career development support for students. A Career Practitioner will be responsible for two or three high schools in maintaining the Career Centre and offering career planning opportunities to the students. Support for junior high schools will be provided if time permits.
Specific Accountabilities
- Provides career information and planning assistance to students, including job coaching, creating resumes and/or cover letters and assisting with interview preparation.
- Collaborates with school-based guidance counsellors, off-campus teachers, classroom teachers and parents to provide opportunities for off-campus education programs.
- Supports students, teachers, and parents through the career discovery process.
- Promotes and organizes the Career Centre, career fairs, assists with post-secondary fairs, and recruits students for off-campus work experience programs, dual credit and exploratory programs, Green Certificate and RAP
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of career exploration and labour trends.
- Supports students to liaise with community partners, organizations, and employers regarding employment opportunities.
Qualifications
- Diploma in a related field, such as Career Development, Human Resources, etc.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in the Career Development field
- Experience managing a Career Centre
- Experience working with career planning for youth, i.e., high school students
- Certificate in Career Development from a recognized program
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated time management and presentation skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Career software and electronic search techniques
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to problem solve effectively and manage conflict appropriately.
