Please Note: This is a temporary position ending on or before one year from hired date with the possibility of extension.

NAIT’s ability management program is designed to help employees who are injured or ill, or who have a medical condition, enabling them to remain at work or return to work. Reporting to the Manager of Ability Management, this position is responsible for employee case management and coordination of workplace accommodations for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses. This role builds relationships inside and outside of NAIT while supporting employees’ safe and sustainable return to work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support early and safe return to work and/or accommodations in the workplace
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. employees, supervisors, unions, health care professionals, WCB)
  • Maintain case management database
  • Report creation and distribution
  • Assist in the identification of suitable job modifications or accommodation
  • Assist managers and third-party providers in the development and monitoring of complex return-to-work plans
  • Make recommendations and coordinate appropriate assessments and evaluations, including job demands analyses, functional capacity evaluations, and independent medical examinations
  • Remain current on related legislation, policies and guidelines, and best practices in the field
  • Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the workplace

Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of disability case management principles and industry best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of WCB policies, procedures, and practices
  • Familiarity with Alberta Human Rights legislation
  • Proficiency in Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Strong understanding of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP)
  • Preferred experience with Cority software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Skilled in anticipating and balancing the needs of diverse stakeholders
  • Effective at planning and prioritizing workloads in high-pressure environments
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage complex cases efficiently
  • Adept at building partnerships and fostering collaboration to achieve common goals
  • Comfortable and approachable when working with diverse groups in sensitive or emotional situations
  • Capable of working independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Resilient and resourceful in overcoming setbacks and adversity
  • Proactive in promoting mental health and wellbeing initiatives in the workplace
  • Experienced in developing and delivering presentations tailored to various stakeholders
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) designation OR bachelor’s degree in a social services/health care related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant ability case management experience within a large, unionized organization

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: $74,793.16 - $99,084.96 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
