We are looking for a Battery Cell Production Engineer based out of the St. Thomas, Ontario office. This role requires a full-time onsite presence.
PowerCo Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Cell Production Engineer to join our team for the battery cell production line in St. Thomas. In this role, you will be responsible for creating production standards, production project management, implementing production system, and solving production issues, covering process steps including electrode processes, cell assembly processes, formation and aging processes, cell finishing and testing processes.

PowerCo Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Cell Production Engineer to join our team for the battery cell production line in St. Thomas. In this role, you will be responsible for creating production standards, production project management, implementing production system, and solving production issues, covering process steps including electrode processes, cell assembly processes, formation and aging processes, cell finishing and testing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform tasks related to cell production engineering for battery cell production plants, including electrode processes, cell assembly processes, formation and aging processes, cell finishing and testing processes
- Create, release and update the production standards
- Work on production project management to reach business targets on time by defined budget
- Identify and solve the production issues, propose possible solutions, communicate with Production Operation, VSMs and Planning team on decision making
- Implement the production system
- Create and release production standards/documents: Operation Instruction, Autonomous Maintenance, 5S instruction, etc.
- Support foreman to smooth implement production standard on shop floor
- Review deviations in daily production and follow up improvement actions
- Participate in simultaneous engineering efforts
- Ensure continuous improvement to reaching production KPI
- Support customer audit and production release
- Support the optimization of production operation to achieve operation cost/efficiency targets
- Provide technical support to task forces as needed
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in in electrical, mechanical, materials, chemical or electrochemical engineering, or a related major.
- Bachelor degree with 4+ years’ experience (shorter for advanced degree holders) of working in Li ion battery cell related field.
- Great knowledge and engineering sense of battery cell production.
- Knowledge of battery cell safety, cell process, lean manufacturing, production system, production line industrialization, mass production KPI tracking and digitalization tools (at least 3 of the areas)
- Knowledge of quality process of production line release, product release and audits
- Experience in participating projects and technical topics.
- Ability to follow through and make significant progress in a fast pace, dynamic environment.
- Experience in project management
- Experience in mass production of automotive component is an asset.
- Experience in initial phase of a battery cell production plant would be considered an asset.
- Working experience with automotive OEMs is an asset.
- Action oriented work style and strong drive of results.
- Integrity and value-driven working style, complaint to rules and regulation.
- Adaptable to international teams with cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to travel both within Canada/US and internationally up to ~ 10%.
- German language skills are considered an asset.
