Jealous Fruits is the northernmost large scale cherry producer in North America. We grow premium cherries along the shores of Okanagan Lake in the renowned Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Our cherries are all hand packed in our state-of-the-art facility, located right on our farm, and shipped to our customers worldwide.
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Farm Manager the Tractor Operator is responsible for the transport of cherries from the field to the processing plant or designated loading area.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The safe and responsible operation of farm equipment
- Transport of cherries from the field to the plant without bruising or damaging cherries
- Transport of totes from the plant to the field
- Ensuring all maintenance issues are reported to your supervisor
- Report any equipment damage to Field Supervisor/Mechanic
- Taking part in Health and Safety training
- Assisting forks/loader operator and swamper with unloading bins of empty totes and loading of bin trailers with totes of cherries in field
- Towing bin trailers loaded with totes of cherries from the field to the processing plant
- Towing bin trailers loaded with empty totes from the plant to the field
- Perform and record tractor inspection checks before and after work shift following checklist provided
- Perform basic maintenance of tractor and bin trailers, greasing and fueling up
- Following direction given by supervisor
Qualifications
- Clean class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
- Approved Tractor Operator Ticket
- Fluent in English
- Must be in good health and able to carry out physically demanding tasks as required
- Must be a flexible team player who works well in a busy and demanding environment
- Good eye for detail and quality maintenance
- Able to work for extended periods of time in a focused, safe and professional manner
- Previous experience an asset
Working Conditions
- This is a farming environment and days off may be extremely limited during our picking season
- Work hours are not calendar based, but are dependent on crop maturity and weather
- Work hours are generally up to 50 hours per week
- Successful candidates begin work at 5:00am
- Overtime provisions do not apply for this position
- Applicants must be available from early July until early to mid-September
