Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detailed Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. The ideal candidate will create, draft, and design product layouts and schemes using customer specification and recommendations. This individual will test products and make adjustments where necessary. Additionally, they will examine broken products and resolve issues for future designs.
Nature & Scope of the position:
This role involves assisting in the full product development cycle, including design, prototyping, testing, production support, and supplier coordination. Key responsibilities include creating and maintaining engineering drawings in SolidWorks, managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), field testing new products, and gathering customer feedback for design improvements. The role also includes collaborating with technical writers, designing production jigs, and programming 3D printers. Additionally, you will assist with UL/ULC testing, ensure compliance with industrial standards, and maintain mechanical reports. You’ll communicate with suppliers, create rendered product images, and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). The role requires close collaboration across departments to optimize design processes and ensure efficient product development.
Main Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical R&D and design project concepts
- Determine feasibility and manufacture ability for concepts
- Create Physical prototype to test fitment
- Understand customer working weather/condition to select correct components/details
Manage SolidWorks Models and Drawings
- Update Models and drawings according to new revision
- Generate flat patterns for production
- Compile technical drawing for production and for supplier
- Create exploded views and BOM to show installation steps
Maintain BOMs in ERP/MRP and compile production data
- Update ERP/MRP BOM according to request from team members
- Create and present ECO for engineering changes
- Create part numbers and their respective product codes
- Compile BOMs for new products
Oversee additive manufacturing with 3D printers
- Program FDM printer and post process printed part
- Program SLA printer and post process printed part
- Do monthly maintenance on printers
- Inventory management on Printer materials
Experience Skills & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 4+ years' of industry experience
- Strong knowledge of mechanical parts and computer-aided design
- Proficiency in SolidWorks; CSWP certification is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of plastic design, sheet metal, and aluminum milling.
- Familiarity with DFM, DFA, IK, and IP ratings.
- Strong ability to work independently and communicate complex ideas effectively.
