The Opportunity:
WSP is seeking a junior to intermediate Social Scientist to join our BC Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team on a full-time basis in our Vancouver office. Our team of social scientists and engagement specialists work throughout BC and elsewhere in Canada and internationally on environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, environmental permitting, policy and program development, social management planning, sustainability initiatives, community engagement, social due diligence, and third-party monitoring. The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to work on interesting and diverse projects across sectors, with a wide range of complexity.

What you can expect to do here:
- Support socio-economic and land and marine use assessments, as part of environmental impact assessment for a wide variety of sectors including infrastructure, power and renewable energy, mining, and oil & gas
- Support secondary research, primary data collection, and field work, including qualitative and quantitative data collection with Indigenous Nations, user groups, communities, and the public
- Conduct analysis and reporting of socio-economic research
- Support Indigenous and public engagement activities for projects
- Assist with development of socio-economic and land and marine use management plans for projects, to meet regulatory and corporate requirements and best practice
- Support other WSP services as may be required, such as socio-economic monitoring, health impact assessments, permit applications, and social compliance and due diligence reviews
- Assist senior staff with Project coordination and management, proposal development, and technical presentations
A university degree (graduate degree preferred) in a social science or natural resource management, or other relevant program
- Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant professional experience
- Demonstrated social science research skills and experience (e.g., use of government statistics, surveys, interviews, focus groups), including design and implementation of research programs and logistics
- Strong team player with experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and teams
- Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities and the public
- Available for business travel and extended working hours as may be required from time to time
- Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
