Position Details

The University of Lethbridge is seeking a Manager, Destination Exploration. This is a full-time, continuing position. The Manager of Destination Exploration (DE) plays a pivotal role in advancing the University of Lethbridge’s commitment to STEM education and community engagement. Responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and growth of Destination Exploration, the largest STEM outreach program at ULethbridge, this position works closely with the Director of Youth Outreach to align program goals with institutional objectives to meet community needs.

The role involves managing STEM outreach opportunities for K-10 students and families, directs Professional Development initiatives for educators, supervises DE Program Coordinators, and assists in facilitating the training of a dedicated team of Youth STEM Instructors. This position represents the University of Lethbridge when working with local, provincial, and national partners on STEM outreach initiatives and projects. This position is a recognizable figure for community members and is typically part of their first engagements with the University, specifically science and research components that lead to future student enrolments.

The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, Engineering or Education, or experience in a related field.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
  • WHMIS Certified.
  • 2-4 years experience working with youth and adults in an educational capacity.
  • Experience with hiring and managing staff.
  • High attention to detail and safety considerations when working with minors.
  • Working knowledge of the Alberta K-12 curriculum.
  • Strong digital skills (database management, coding languages, back-end navigation of social media platforms, experience with technology tools used in K-12 classrooms).
  • Strong management, analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly adaptable to changing schedules.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational certifications for relevant technology tools (Makey Makey, Ozobots, etc.).
  • Technical skills for Adobe Creative Cloud applications (relevant to graphics, publications and video creation).
  • Experience in the areas of fundraising, budgeting and strategic planning.
  • High level of experience and skills to implement programming for equipment used in STEM outreach education (Makey Makey, Ozobots, Arduinos, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact successfully with individuals at all levels.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$63,255.50 - $79,575.80 annually

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$63,255.50 - $95,896.11 annually (APO - Grade 3)
