Your area of focus.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a mechanical workshop or repair facility. They manage a team of technicians, ensure proper maintenance of equipment, schedule work assignments, and maintain safety and quality standards. The foreman also handles inventory control, coordinates with management for project planning, and ensures that work is completed on time and within budget. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills are essential in this role.

Your area of focus.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a mechanical workshop or repair facility. They manage a team of technicians, ensure proper maintenance of equipment, schedule work assignments, and maintain safety and quality standards. The foreman also handles inventory control, coordinates with management for project planning, and ensures that work is completed on time and within budget. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills are essential in this role.
What drives your day-to-day?
- Understand and ensure compliance with manufacturer's warranty terms and policies.
- Ensure that all repairs are assigned to technicians equally and fairly.
- Provide technical support to technicians as required.
- Ensure repairs are allocated correctly.
- Prioritize and monitor all shop returns to ensure appropriate and immediate attention.
- Check the progress of each repair throughout the day.
- Maintain a high quality repair service and minimize shop returns. Perform intermittent checks on completed work to monitor thoroughness and quality.
- Carry out road tests to verify the quality of work performed.
- Participate in handling customer complaints in collaboration with supervisor.
- Participate in departmental performance management using tools such as daily operations control, efficiency and productivity monitoring, shop return reports, warranty reports, telephone surveys and monthly forecasts.
- Monitor shop conditions, including cleanliness, safety and equipment condition. Report problems to Service Manager or Dealer.
- Notify Parts Manager and Service Manager of frequent shortages so situation can be corrected.
- Ensure proper maintenance, storage and inventory of special tools.
- Keep abreast of new equipment and tools entering the market and make purchasing recommendations.
- Prepare a list of equipment, supplies and repairs required by the after-sales service department, and verify it with the manager if necessary.
- Be aware of, understand and comply with federal, provincial and municipal regulations affecting maintenance work, such as hazardous waste disposal, etc.
- Monitor technicians' daily productivity reports.
- Motivate technicians under his/her responsibility and participate in the recruitment and hiring of certified technicians in collaboration with his/her superior.
- Help technicians improve their skills.
- Strive for harmony and team spirit within the department and with all other departments.
- Ensure that all department employees receive relevant manufacturer training.
- Review, on a regular basis, the performance of all technicians according to dealership guidelines.
- 310S Automotive Service Technician's license - Red Seal is an asset
- Senior technician experience and/or Shop Foreman experience is an asset
- You must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- You have have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Shop supervisory or leadership experience is highly desirable and/or lengthy tenure as a senior Service Technician
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems, mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team of technicians, along with skills in scheduling, budgeting, and inventory management.
- Capable of diagnosing complex mechanical issues and developing effective solutions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, management, and customers.
- Understanding of workplace safety regulations and procedures, ensuring compliance in daily operations
- Familiarity with shop management software, diagnostic tools, and basic office software for reporting and record-keeping.
