About The Role
On-site | Seasonal (Term) | Junior Level | Tuesday - Saturday
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for preparation of standards, stocks, and materials;
- Operates Basic and Level 1 analytical instruments;
- Generates work lists and organizes analytical runs;
- Prepares complex sample extractions, preparations, and analyses;
- Calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting of Basic and Level 1 analytical instruments;
- Assist with training of other staff in department;
- Review and write SOP's;
- Perform Quality Control approval review;
- Carry out all required work scheduling and planning activities;
- Complete all data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.) and required record-keeping & documentation;
- Communicate with the Client Services staff as required;
- Deliver accurate results to our clients in a timely manner,
- Technical decision making for non-routine, complex analyses, or matrices,
- Monitor inventory of spare parts and consumables;
- Follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements and adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
- Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with basic computer skills;
- Accurate and efficient data entry skill is an asset;
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;
- Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;
- Analytical and process oriented, with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
- Completion of degree/diploma in Biology or Microbiology, or related discipline;
- Some experience working in a fast-paced, production, and/or preparation environment;
- Previous lab experience an asset.
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) as required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
- You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.

- Additional shift premiums of $2 per hour for evening shifts and $4 per hour for night shifts, if applicable.
