Our Sports Development, Wellness and Culture Department is looking for a dedicated Historical Site Interpreter to join the team.

Position Responsibilities

The Historical Site Interpreter will oversee day-to-day operations at the site. They will greet visitors and conduct guided tours of the site. They are expected to take a significant role with event implementation including afternoon teas. The interpreter will be taught the proper care and handling of artifacts and will assist with museum operations at the Grande Prairie Museum.

The Historic Site Interpreter will be expected to assist with exhibit creation and special events (i.e. Canada Day and Heritage Day). For those bilingual in both official languages, there would be an opportunity to create French programs and promotional material. The Rev. Forbes Homestead will be the primary location for this position, but some duties will be performed at the Grande Prairie Museum.

Qualifications

This position would be ideal for those with an interest in the tourism industry, Alberta history, and education. It will require someone who is equally at home working alone or with a group and has excellent customer service skills. Qualifications include a valid class 5 driver’s license, proficient in Microsoft Office programs, and a minimum of one year of post-secondary education. A current First Aid and CPR certificate is an asset. A criminal/vulnerable sector records check will be required. This is a summer student position with Young Canada Works.

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor. Your normal work week will typically run from Tuesday to Saturday.

Compensation

Starting salary $22.27 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
