Junior Building Science Specialist

Type: Hybrid (Remote/On-site) Location: Edmonton, AB Hours: 40 hours/week

This hybrid position offers a balanced combination of in-office work, site visits, and remote tasks from home. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and engage with project sites while also enjoying the flexibility of working from the comfort of your home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architectural Drawings Review: Assess architectural drawings focusing on the building envelope system.
- Building Envelope Site Review During Construction: Conduct site reviews during construction. Prepare and distribute site visit reports.
- Mock-ups Review: Inspect site mock-ups of critical building envelope details. Collaborate with contractors and subcontractors.
- Building Envelope Water Leak Investigation: Analyze building drawings and related documents.
- Conduct Visual Inspections: Perform assessments of both the building’s interior and exterior.
- Design & Specifications: Create comprehensive technical specifications and detailed drawings for building envelope rehabilitation.
- Tendering: Compile and distribute tender documents to potential bidders.
- Contract Administration: Lead start-up meetings, perform quality assurance visits, issue instructions and change orders, and conduct final reviews to ensure scope completion.
- Building Condition Assessment: Evaluate the roof, exterior walls, window systems, and interior assemblies.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist Sr. Building Science Engineer with tasks as assigned.
- Manage multiple projects to meet deadlines.
- Oversee building envelope projects from design to completion.
- Conduct site investigations and evaluate building envelope systems.
- Design, analyze, and prepare reports on building envelope systems.
- Perform contract administration and construction reviews.
- Collaborate with engineering and architectural disciplines.
- Supervise subcontractors and field superintendents.
- Build positive relationships with clients for efficient inspections.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in ‘Building Science’, Architecture, Engineering or related field with background in ‘Building Science’.
- OR a technical diploma from an accredited Canadian college in ‘Construction Engineering’ or ‘Architectural Technology’ with minimum 1 year experience in the construction field.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Fundamental knowledge of building envelope and its components.
- Proficiency in reading construction drawings.
- Familiarity with Building Codes and construction guides.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems in buildings.
- Adaptability and ability to perform well under pressure.
- Strong computational skills.
- C.E.T or E.I.T is an asset
