Role

Reporting to the Deputy Clerk of Executive Council, as the Chief of Protocol you will be responsible for a politically sensitive and high-profile portfolio that provides leadership and coordination of Government ceremonial, protocol, and diplomatic activities; work that is vital to promoting Alberta, both nationally and internationally.

You will take a leadership role in advising Government on all matters of protocol and precedence including planning and conducting official ceremonies and visits to the Province; acting as the principal Government contact for Alberta’s Consular / Diplomatic Corps; providing support to the Premier’s Office for diplomatic and ceremonial events; state funerals and overseeing Government House in Edmonton for meetings, events, and ceremonies, ensuring the Alberta Protocol Office positively represents Alberta to the world.

Qualifications

As Chief of Protocol, you bring extensive related senior leadership experience and knowledge of Protocol matters to this high-visibility role. You possess a deep understanding of Alberta’s strategic direction, business plans, goals, and policy direction, coupled with a deep understanding of government decision-making. As a leader, you have a proven track record leading staff on the precise execution of high-profile functions, events, and visits, and bring knowledge of budgeting, business, and project planning to the role.

You are described as tactful and agile, and possess well-developed consultation, facilitation, negotiation, influence, and communication skills. Fostering relationships with diverse audiences is another area of strength. You thrive in politically sensitive environments and enjoy managing rapidly evolving issues, engaging mitigation plans, and are a creative problem solver. Your reputation for motivating and empowering teams will position you for success. A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, or a related discipline, is required.

Salary

$5,082.46 - $6,679.30 bi-weekly ($132,652- $174,329 yearly)
