Hours of Work: 8:30 am – 4:30 PM (Monday – Friday)

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Language and Culture, the Language and Culture Coordinator will ensure Sekani Culture and Language is communicated in all Tsay Keh Dene Programs and Services. The role involves developing and delivering Language and Culture activities, managing culture, language, and traditional land use projects, and may require evening or out-of-town work related to culture camps and cultural site enhancement projects.

JOB DUTIES:
- Coordinates all aspects of language and culture projects;
- Updates language lesson plans with the Early Years Coordinator and other departments as required.
- Develops, plans, and implements Language and Cultural Camps;
- Assists in developing Cultural packages for Tsay Keh Dene Children in care of MCFD.
- Develops, plans, and implements Language Teaching and Resource Development.
- Collects ideas for youth language projects and integration of language and culture at home and in programming;
- Collaborates with the Director of Language and Culture on Tsay Keh Dene Language Revitalization Plan priorities.
- Facilitates meetings and liaises with staff when supporting activities;
- Liaises with language program staff and promotes culture and language activities in the community.
- Engages with staff to strengthen, develop, and promote language programs and services;
- Establishes connections and strong working relationships with staff and the community;
- Develops a supportive rapport with the community and elders, acting as a positive role model.
- Gathers information for Language Immersion Programs;
- Engages with Tsay Keh Dene to promote language and cultural practices in the community.
- Assists with the development of the language dictionary.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
- Knowledge of Tsay Keh Language and culture.
- Degree in First Nation Studies or equivalent education.
- Knowledge of Sekani language and culture is an asset.
- Minimum two years experience in project management, outreach, and community engagement.
- Understanding of Sekani culture and values.
- Knowledge of the needs of the community and community services.
- Effective communication skills, including engaging, presenting, and reporting.
- Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software;
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
- Enthusiasm for community language and culture revitalization.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Team building skills.
- Willingness to learn Tsay Keh language.
- Experience with Indigenous communities.
- Effective leadership skills and knowledge of Office 365.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
Salary: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
