As a Network Lead Organization for the provincially-funded Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) program, our mandate is to improve access to effective mental health care for Ontarians. Our program has specific objectives for providing culturally safe and competent care to equity-deserving populations. We provide evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for adults experiencing Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, Posttraumatic Stress disorder (PTSD), and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The program uses measurement-based care to monitor outcomes and inform treatment planning. Clients are offered treatment within a stepped care model that includes lower intensity services (self-administered strategies with support from a coach or therapist) to higher intensity weekly individual or group therapy with an OSP clinician. Psychologists in OSP provide individual or group consultation to program clinicians who are registered mental health providers, deliver CBT training to OSP clinicians province-wide, and participate in the delivery of clinical services (including assessment and individual and/or group intervention).

The CBT psychologist will be an experienced psychologist (with outstanding demonstrated skills and abilities in psychotherapy, specifically cognitive behavioural therapy) who will be taking on a primary training and consultation role within the development and implementation of the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program.

Responsibilities include a primary role in the provision of standardized provincial training and provision of CBT consultation to autonomously registered community and hospital-based service providers, program development and evaluation, psychodiagnostic assessment and differential diagnosis, and provision of care to clients who have more complex needs.

The clinical consultant will provide clinical consultation and support in achieving equitable service provision to OSP clinicians across the network. The role has a specific focus on understanding the clinical needs of the diverse communities across the region and providing didactic education, training and clinical consultation to OSP clinicians to meet these needs while adhering to CBT principles.

Duties:

  • Participate in the provision of a provincial training curriculum in CBT for the OSP program (in keeping with the Program’s objectives) to community and hospital-based therapists within our region and provincially
  • Provide individual and group clinical consultation to registered mental health therapists
  • Provide clinical consultation to clinical intake clinicians
  • Conduct clinical assessment and diagnostic interviews to determine suitability for the OSP program
  • Interpret standardized psychological assessment instruments
  • Practice Measurement Based Care (progress monitoring and outcome evaluation) to inform treatment decisions, enhance client outcomes and support quality improvement initiatives
  • Use case conceptualization to design individualized treatment plans based on client needs
  • Coordinate care among internal and external service providers
  • Ensure services are culturally safe and appropriate
  • Collaborate with OSP leadership team to support the development and maintenance of relationships with relevant community partners.
  • Participate in community outreach initiatives and events
  • Collaborate with OSP leadership to engage with community stakeholders in identifying the clinical needs of equity deserving community members in the OSP East Region
  • Provide training and consultation to OSP clinicians on adapting CBT practice to meet the needs of diverse communities while adhering to CBT principles. This may include offering training and mentorship in providing culturally safe and responsive mental health services to equity-deserving populations, including LGBTQ2S+ and gender affirming care, anti-racist care, and care that is sensitive and responsive to diverse ethnic or cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide psychological treatment in individual or group format for the purpose of maintaining clinical skills and for direct training and consultation of trainees
  • Function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Liaise and consult with relevant community agencies and service providers
  • Build effective collaborative working relationships with stakeholders
  • Provide teaching and training of mental health professionals and other staff working in the service.
  • Participate in Psychology training activities, including teaching and supervision of pre-doctoral clinical Psychology residents and practicum students
  • Participate in and provide leadership to OSP research and evaluation projects and take an active role in data collection and developing reports.
  • Attend Psychology discipline meetings and participate in discipline activities, as approved by management.
  • Demonstrate professional integrity through adherence to college and hospital guidelines for the practice of psychology, including; adherence to the Canadian Code of Ethics for psychologists, adherence to College of Psychologists of Ontario guidelines for registration, professional practice, professional development, supervision, communications and documentation of client contacts, as well as adherence to The Royal’s policies on timely completion of documentation and workload measurement.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate from a CPA/APA Accredited Psychology Program.
  • CPA/APA accredited internship/residency (or equivalent) in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario is mandatory. Autonomous Practice is preferred. Candidates who can complete this requirement within 18 months of date of hire will be considered for a conditional offer of employment.
  • Authorized area of practice in Clinical Psychology mandatory. Authorized client population with Adults is mandatory, and with Seniors would be an asset.
  • Five years experience post PhD in clinical mental health
  • Mandatory clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of: Anxiety disorders, Mood disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Illness anxiety disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder using evidence-based CBT approaches.
  • Clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders is an asset
  • Experience delivering CBT and Relevant CBT protocols within the OSP program is an asset
  • Mandatory experience in provision of training in CBT and clinical consultation and supervision
  • Demonstrated training in, understanding, and provision of culturally safe and competent care to equity-deserving populations, including LGBTQ2S+ and gender affirming care, anti-racist care, and care that is sensitive and responsive to diverse ethnic or cultural backgrounds
  • Experience working with, advocating for, and/or increasing access to care for equity deserving community members.
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary service delivery model is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislated Acts (i.e. MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act).
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain good working relations
  • Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, Best Practices and Team Work
  • Valid G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Effective mentoring and clinical supervision skills to support both the academic role and the clinical practice of other team members.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
