Roles And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, you will be a key player in achieving Transdev’s business objectives, providing key operational support to the West HR team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as a trusted advisor, partner and coach to business leaders and managers in Metro Vancouver contracts for HandyDART and Community Shuttle), providing expert guidance on a wide range of employee and labour matters (e.g. performance management, progressive discipline, interpretation of collective agreement, duty to accommodate);
  • Provide expertise to managers in scoping and conducting investigations of grievances/complaints for both union and non-union employee cases and leading investigations where required;
  • Building and manages the employer-union relationship through effective facilitation and a consultative approach, being the day-to-day contact for managers, union representatives;
  • Leading the grievance management process with operational leaders, providing assessment and professional advice during each step while collaborating with internal partners to provide recommendations for resolution;
  • Assessing files for arbitration, being the internal labour expert on a file. Analyzes position, identifies risks, opportunities, and challenges to the relevant senior operational leaders, Director HR, Legal Counsel, and other stakeholders;
  • Support and participate in collective bargaining negotiations including preparing required documentation, coordinating schedules with union representatives, providing strategic advice on bargaining position, drafting proposals, and attending bargaining sessions. Take second chair or spokesperson roles as assigned.
  • Actively identifying and leading continuous improvement of HR services within local locations, consistently reviewing HR processes & systems for change;
  • Ensuring operational leaders are equipped with necessary tools and knowledge, including developing & delivering education programs;
  • Preparing ad hoc and regular management reports, monitoring trends and identify key issues and opportunities for improvement;
  • Providing daily leadership to HR Administrator

Qualifications And Requirement

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive human resources experience supporting front-line management with a focus on employee & labour relations, or equivalent people leadership and consultative experience;
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, displaying creativity and innovation;
  • Demonstrated experience with conflict resolution and change management;
  • Experience in a multi-union environment an asset;
  • Collective bargaining experience an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations in British Columbia and Western Canada;
  • Strong record keeping skills and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Strong professional writing and presentation skills;
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently;
  • Ability to be resourceful, proactive and anticipate needs;
  • Ability to travel between facilities within Surrey and Metro Vancouver Region;
  • Ability to travel within the Western region of Canada as needed;
  • CPHR designation or pursuing designation preferred.
