Position Overview

Under general supervision the incumbent will provide engineering support to various Aerospace Division (HIA) Departments and other IMP Divisions in areas related to Materials and Processes.

What You Will Do

  • Provide M&P related engineering support to various Aerospace (HIA) departments and other IMP Divisions;
  • Provide technical assistance and leadership to non-technical personnel, as directed;
  • Develop, evaluate, select, document, implement and maintain aircraft process Standard Plant Procedures and Shop Instruction Notes to customer and/or engineering design requirements.;
  • Conduct technical investigation as tasked by DND or other departments;
  • Monitor advances in technology and changes to specifications related to M&P and advise Supervisor of changes that could impact the division or its customers;
  • Provide technical support to assist in obtaining process approval for subcontract work;
  • Review and analyze process, procedures and material deficiencies and make rectification recommendations.
  • Support Environmental, Health & Safety objectives through investigating, developing and implementing replacements for hazardous products and processes; and
  • Investigate process failures and determine corrective actions.

What You Will Bring

  • Has obtained a Materials, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering Degree from an accredited facility or possesses equivalent education and experience.
  • 0 to 3 years experience in an engineering environment, preferably dealing with materials and processes issues in an Aerospace environment. Recent (within 2 years) experience is desirable.
  • Proficient in report writing and possesses good communication skills.
  • Has experience performing the techniques required to conduct chemical analyses (e.g. titration, pH testing, solution mixing, etc.).
  • Sound knowledge of metal treatment processes pertaining to the aerospace industry, including but not limited to heat treatment, plating, coating, corrosion mechanisms and prevention, etc.
  • Knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry.
  • Familiar with safe handling procedures of hazardous chemicals and will comply with all safety regulations, security regulations and company procedures/orders.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
