Insurance Bureau of Canada
Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Toronto, ON
Contract type: Full time

Summary
The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is looking for a dynamic, passionate, and driven policy professional to join our team as a Policy Advisor. This is an opportunity to dive into some of Canada’s most complex and urgent policy challenges.
At IBC, we are at the forefront of catastrophic risk, climate adaptation and sustainable finance issues, leading innovative conversations and crafting impactful solutions that influence public policy across the nation on behalf of our members. If you thrive in a fast-paced, varied environment and have a passion for making a difference, this role is for you.
Based in Toronto, as a Policy Advisor, you’ll work on high-stakes, complex issues like flood risk, earthquake risk, climate risk mitigation and cyber risk. You’ll conduct in-depth research and analysis to develop and articulate innovative policy positions that address today’s most pressing challenges. You will collaborate with Canada’s home, car, and business insurers to ensure their voices are heard on the national public policy agenda, while working closely with industry leaders to build consensus and represent their perspectives effectively. Your role will involve drafting compelling submissions for public consultations at both federal and provincial levels, preparing detailed briefing materials, reports, and policy notes for key meetings and committees, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for transformative change in catastrophic and climate risk policy.
This role is an opportunity to be a part of a dedicated team tackling critical policy issues that affect millions of Canadians. You’ll work in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities, allowing you to make a meaningful impact by contributing to innovative solutions on a national scale. The role offers the chance to expand your expertise by working on a variety of complex and rewarding policy files that address issues critical to Canada’s future.
We’re looking for someone who is an exceptional researcher, analyst, and writer, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable recommendations. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to build relationships and consensus among diverse stakeholders. A strong background or keen interest in catastrophic risk mitigation, climate adaptation and high stakes advocacy will set you apart in this role.
Reporting to the Manager, Catastrophic Risk Policy, the successful applicant will be embedded in the Climate and Natural Catastrophe Policy Team and will support the policy and advocacy objectives of the Vice President, Policy and Vice President, Federal Affairs.
