Job Description:

On behalf of our enterprise client, Affinity is seeking a Security Analyst / Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a multi-year cybersecurity transformation program. This role will be instrumental in enhancing security capabilities, implementing risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with industry-leading frameworks like NIST CSF.

This is a remote opportunity open to candidates across Canada, with an engagement duration of 18-24 months.

Role Overview:

As a Security Analyst / Cybersecurity SME, you will work closely with the cybersecurity team to analyze, implement, and optimize security controls. Your expertise will contribute to the design, implementation, and monitoring of key security initiatives, including:

  • Vulnerability Management
  • Security Awareness & Training
  • Network Security & Segmentation
  • Endpoint Security
  • Data Discovery & Protection
  • Security Incident & Event Management (SIEM)

You will identify security risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide expert-level guidance to ensure that cybersecurity best practices are seamlessly integrated into the organization’s security posture.

Key Responsibilities:

Security Operations & Risk Mitigation:

  • Conduct security assessments, gap analyses, and risk evaluations to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security controls to protect IT assets.
  • Monitor and analyze security incidents, threats, and potential breaches, working with the incident response team to mitigate risks.

Implementation of Security Policies & Standards:

  • Support the development of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).

Security Incident & Event Management (SIEM):

  • Work with security operations teams to monitor, analyze, and respond to security events.
  • Leverage SIEM tools, threat intelligence, and security logs to proactively detect and address security threats.

Network & Endpoint Security Optimization:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of network security controls such as segmentation, firewall rules, and IDS/IPS configurations.
  • Support endpoint security strategies, including patch management, anti-malware deployment, and access controls.

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Work closely with cybersecurity engineers, IT teams, and project managers to ensure smooth implementation of security initiatives.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and training to internal security teams for long-term sustainability.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Cybersecurity Expertise:

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity analysis, security operations, or risk management.
  • Deep knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).

Security Operations & Threat Management:

  • Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), firewalls, and endpoint protection tools.
  • Familiarity with threat modeling, incident response, and vulnerability management.

Public Sector & Healthcare Security Experience:

  • Experience working in public sector environments (healthcare preferred).
  • Understanding of healthcare security regulations and privacy laws (e.g., PHIPA, PIPEDA).

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with security tools such as Splunk, Sentinel, Tenable Nessus, Qualys, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of network security, cloud security, and IAM solutions.

Excellent Communication & Analytical Skills:

  • Ability to analyze security risks and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Strong documentation skills for writing security reports, assessments, and policies.
