INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER – PROCESS IMPROVEMENT ANALYST -BROOKS, AB

With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

Position Description

The Industrial Engineer – Process Improvement Analyst, is the champion and thought leader for influencing the continuous improvement culture and a culture of business agility across the plant production. This role is responsible for driving continuous improvement programs and end-to-end agile execution of projects and programs by engaging and working with employees at all levels of the organization. He/She must identify the issues related to process improvement; implement, adopt, and adapt to that change; and be successful in the change. Success is measured by the ability to actively engage teams to achieve measurable results and to educate and enroll others in waste elimination and continuous improvement. This position is located in Brooks, Alberta

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Implement process improvement initiatives and elaborate action plans, resource models, project milestones and success metrics, in accordance with JBS corporate annual projection.
  • Analyze and design the deployment and training of the production team to satisfy the needs of JBS’ customer demands.
  • Research information on current JBS projects and process and make recommendations to management on how to improve process and reduce errors.
  • Analyze and implement accordingly, current JBS Champion Lean Principles and practices throughout the organization to foster deeper understanding and adoption of these core principles.
  • Use and implementation of the JBS Customized Lean and Six Sigma methodologies (5S, PDCA, SDCA)
  • Work with Organizational Managers and key stakeholders to design and develop best practices and processes that utilize JBS resources and values across different workstreams. Responsible for evaluating the consistency and operation continuity of Lean Production Principles.
  • Anticipate and plan for process integration initiatives that support the underlying business objectives.
  • Based in the JBS methodologies, creates process changes by integrating new processes with existing ones and deploy these new improvement innovations to the operations teams.
  • Analyze and implement role models required by JBS for excellent instructional training and development of these capabilities in the different areas of the organization.
  • Analyze, develop and run, policies, systems, procedures and routines necessary to support cost reduction, labor optimization and JBS utilization goals (KPI’s) all aligned with JBS Corporate goals.
  • Help to ensure reliability systems are developed to be as robust as safety, quality and environment systems
  • Promote the lean JBS Everyday Ideas Program through emails, articles, posters, videos, etc.
  • Create charts, graphs and presentations to communicate business process, waste and improvements for a process
  • Assists with developing and providing timely labour and cost reports to all stakeholders.
  • Analyze and develop comparative data from other JBS Business Units to target performance improvement opportunities in Canada
  • Must have a working knowledge of JBS 5S program, Continuous Flow Production and writing process control documentation.
  • Guide and advise plant managers and supervisors through decision making process by using data analysis.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Science or related field and three or more years of progressively responsible positions within the JBS organization, including implementing process improvement projects and demonstrated hands on training delivery.
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills
  • Ability to understand and perform qualitative data analysis
  • Outstanding interpersonal, teaching and leadership skills
  • Role Model for change and a champion of lean production principles
  • Ability to influence across departments and various levels of leadership
  • Strong background in problem solving, planning and organization.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office applications including Power point and Excel (know how to use the functionality macros)
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification required (Green Belt or Black Belt) at a level to successfully continue to advance the culture of continuous improvement
  • Valid driver license required
  • Willing and able to travel internationally. Travel expenses paid by employer
