The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry provides outstanding education within a research-intensive, distributed learning environment, where tomorrow’s physicians, dentists and health researchers and other scholars learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest Faculty on the Western University campus and employs over 2,000 part-time and full-time faculty and over 1,500 staff.
The Department of Psychiatry is a diverse city-wide clinical academic department at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. The department encompasses the University, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), St. Joseph’s Health Care, London (SJHC), London and St. Thomas, and the Child and Parent Resources Institute (CPRI).
The vision for the Department of Psychiatry is to be the acknowledged Centre of Excellence for psychiatric care and discovery in South Western Ontario with a mission to translate clinical research into treatment and provide regional consultation within interdisciplinary models of care. The Department of Psychiatry is comprised of 77 Clinical Academics, 5 Basic Research Scientists, and 14 administrative staff including the Manager, Administration & Finance.
Responsibilities
The Administrative Officer will provide support in the management of financial, human resources and faculty relations functions for the Department of Psychiatry. The role will implement financial processes, reconcile accounts, and work in collaboration with the Financial Officer to provide financial management analysis and guidance for the effective use of fiscal resources, including funds received from grants and donations. The Administrative Officer will support the development, implementation and oversight of financial and human resources processes required to support the Department’s mission of achieving world-class excellence. The role will ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and oversee and support faculty, staff and student human resources functions, including recruitment, appointments and reappointments within the Department.
Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Accounting Health or other related field
- Completion of a 4-year Undergraduate Degree in Accounting is preferred
Experience:
- 3 years of progressive administrative experience (financial, human resources, administrative) in a complex environment
- Experience in a unionized or public sector environment is preferred
- Experience in a clinical academic setting would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated skills working with collective agreements, employment standards and the ability to advise on policies and procedures as they relate to different employee groups
- Demonstrated advanced judgement, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with internal and external colleagues, departments, and business partners
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse stakeholder group
- Ability to establish effective methods of communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a solid understanding of key financial, accounting and human resources principles
- Solid negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects and rapidly changing priorities
- Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (with advanced skills in Word and Excel)
- Ability to analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of detail and data
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve departmental goals
