As a Casual Educational Assistant, you will work on call in short-term and long-term assignments at multiple schools throughout the diverse communities of Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board including Hamilton Mountain, Hamilton Downtown, Waterdown, Flamborough, Dundas, Ancaster, Mount Hope, Binbrook, Stoney Creek and Winona.
The Role
As a Member Of a Multidisciplinary Team Of Professionals, You Will Provide a Range Of Supportive Interventions For Students Who Exhibit Self-regulation, Social, Emotional, Physical, And/or Medical Needs. This Could Include, But Is Not Limited To
Support students with diverse needs such as physical, intellectual, behavioural, learning disabilities, and/or students with multiple disabilities.
Support and collaborate with the teacher to meet the needs of students, primarily those with special in regular and special education classes.
Assist on a regular basis with hygiene, which could include support with toileting, diapering, and dressing.
Lift and reposition students (as trained by physical/occupational therapists).
Follow the guidelines of student accommodation and support plans.
Participate in all legislative professional development as well as all other PD identified by HWDSB.
All new hires will be invited to participate in our *NEW* Educational Assistant onboarding program that includes BMS training, essential skills training, EasyConnect training, and three days of job shadowing.
Education, Experience, & Skills
To perform the duties of the role, we are looking for the following qualifications:
Diploma as an Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Services Worker, or Social Service Worker.
Training in one or more of the following areas: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Autism Spectrum Disorder, assistive technology, sign language, First Aid and CPR.
Cultural and ability sensitivity, related experience supporting individuals with special needs.
The ability to perform physical tasks including dressing, feeding, lifting/re-positioning, transfers, toileting, and diapering.
