The district enrolls approximately 23,700 students (K-12) and employs over 4100 dedicated staff.This position provides Food Services and instructional assistance in Baking within a Teaching Cafeteria.
The incumbent prepares, assembles and serves baked goods in the cafeteria and for catering, reinforces the teacher's instructions to students and demonstrates the safe and proper use of kitchen equipment and appliances. This position is under the supervision of the school administrator and receives instructions from the teacher. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Assists Teacher in instructing students in preparation and safe handling of baked goods such as cookies, biscuits, muffins, breads, pastries, cakes, puddings and other desserts.Assists Foods Services Cook in the preparation and serving of cafeteria meals and catering orders as they relate to baked goods.Works with individuals and small groups, and monitors the classroom as assigned when teacher is briefly absent or unavailable, but does not assume whole class instructional responsibilities.Monitors students in food preparation areas to ensure proper food handling procedures and the safe use of equipment.Monitors inventory levels and informs Teacher of supplies required Receives, unpacks and stores kitchen supplies and food as required.Rotates supplies according to kitchen procedures.Sets up food preparation areas and participates in kitchen clean up routines.May assist in set up and closure of kitchen including turning on and off ovens, coffee machines, juice makers, hot water urns and unlocking and locking coolers and freezers.Performs all duties in compliance with District and Government health and safety procedures and regulations that relate to the work performed to minimize potential for accidents, injuries or hazards.Completion of Food Safe Program. Performs other job related duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as required.
Required Qualifications Grade 12 plus a Baking Certificate from a recognized institution plus two (2) years experience baking or an equivalent combination of training and experience.The ability to use patience, tolerance and understanding in developing and maintaining a rapport with students and in resolving problems or conflicts that may arise.Strong communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with school staff and to assist students.Thorough knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures used in the baking industry.Skill in the use and operation of industrial kitchen tools, appliances and equipment in the baking industry.Ability to organize workload, work under periodic pressure and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling and moving materials, equipment and supplies. Good interpersonal skills. This is a unionized position that offers a 20-hour work week with an hourly rate of pay of $30.91,plus a benefit package of medical, extended health,dental anda pension plan.
