What you will do:

As a Payroll and Benefits Specialist, you will be responsible for performing and completing the full payroll cycle for salaried and hourly employees in Canada (Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba), in compliance with tax laws, regulations, and labor standards, as well as handling personal files and administering benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, process, and validate payroll and deduction information quickly and efficiently, in compliance with tax laws, regulations, and labor standards;
  • Take full responsibility for the controls and quality of payroll system procedures;
  • Participate in optimizing and implementing new payroll and benefits practices;
  • Generate reconciled payroll reports and resolve payroll discrepancies and related issues;
  • Ve rify timesheets, validate payroll entri es, and approve overtime calculations;
  • Manage employee absences and paid leave to ensure accurate payroll accounting;
  • Apply company policies regarding vacation benefits and overtime pay;
  • Process garnishments and withholdings;
  • Prepare Record of Employment (ROE) forms;
  • Organize and coordinate year-end processes (T4/Relevé1, etc.);
  • Participate in monthly general accounting closure;
  • Produce ad-hoc reports and provide support to management;
  • Administer year-end payroll closure process (including training activity reports, annual payroll audit, summaries, and related tax documents);
  • Liaise with HR and operations to ensure accurate entry of employee hires, departures, salaries, and benefits;
  • Maintain employee records, direct deposit information, and benefit deductions;
  • Analyze payroll data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes and tools in the context of projects;
  • Perform administrative tasks supporting payroll processes and activities.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • College diploma in administration, accounting, or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a role directly related to payroll activities, including the full payroll cycle;
  • Experience in payroll processing in the province of Quebec;
  • Experience in payroll processing for another Canadian province (an asset);
  • Bilingualism in French and English is essential;
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel, with experience handling files with macros and pivot tables;
  • Good understanding of payroll, labor standards, personal tax laws, and corresponding government regulations.

  • Knowledge of the ADP system (an asset);
  • Level 1 Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association (an asset).
