Role

The Executive Director, Legal Services provides strategic advice on organizational structures, processes, tools, functionality and resources to ensure the ongoing relevancy and resiliency of the Division in meeting the challenges of a complex and changing environment and to effectively and efficiently deliver its mandate. In this role, you will provide leadership in identifying options and opportunities for the Division to strategically position itself to embrace adaptive systems to quickly respond and proactively deliver programs and services to meet emerging issues and changing demands.


You will provide key contributions as a member of the Division’s senior management team by providing strategic advice and recommendations to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, and Minister. You will support and mentor multiple directors who lead a team of legal professionals and other staff in the successful achievement of the Division’s mandate and goals.


As the Executive Director, you will be accountable for leading activities that exercise a broad influence inside and outside of the Division and Department to mobilize and optimize relationships to advance and promote collaboration and integration of initiatives and to leverage resources. Additionally, the Legal Services Division represents Alberta at all levels of provincial and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and before a wide variety of administrative tribunals. Establishing and maintaining effective relationships across government with a diverse range of stakeholders will be critical to this role.


Qualifications

As an influential and highly credible leader, your career will include extensive related senior management and legal experience, with a proven track record leading teams providing complex, legal advice. You have exceptional issues management, communication, and relationship building skills, with an ability to work in an effective collaborative fashion. Your advanced communication skills enable you to lead projects and provide timely and effective support to stakeholders ensuring outcomes are achieved. A proven leader and mentor, you have demonstrated success empowering and motivating teams to strive for excellence.


A law degree is required as well as membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.


Salary

$7,623.69 - $ 10,018.95 biweekly
