The Grocery Assistant Team Lead plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates the operations of the Grocery Department. This position requires an individual who demonstrates a quality driven leadership style and is passionate about leading and developing people in a profitable business. This is also a hands-on role. The role focuses on the preparation and presentation of all grocery items for sale with abundant, appealing, attractive displays and ensures that all objectives and goals of the department and store, as communicated by the Team Lead, Market Manager, and leadership team, are met or exceeded. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for customer service, ensuring that our team delivers an exceptional market experience. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising and coordinating between Grocery Department Team Members.
  • Providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and maintain productivity.
  • Great relationship with purchasing department to ensure specifications and pricing from approved suppliers is followed.
  • Equipment maintenance and safe workplace, sanitation systems in place and followed.
  • Execute great results to every customer that builds rapport and trust.
  • All customer requests and questions are addressed and personally followed up on.
  • Forecast and order grocery items as required.
  • All cases and shelves throughout the department are clean, well-stocked and rotated.
  • Establish effective methods for the increasing productivity in the Grocery Department.
  • Maintain and evaluate records of stock, sales and wastage.
  • Develop and train new employees to enhance their skills in customer service, sales techniques, product knowledge, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Manage inventory levels, ensuring that products are well-stocked and properly displayed.
  • Ensure that Sunterra’s food quality and service standards are met.
  • May participate in the selection of new Team Members.
  • Control and maintain records of inventory, monitor revenues and make suggestions for procedures and price changes.
  • Assist and support the Grocery Team with all departmental functions.
  • Ensure appealing displays by checking codes, rotating products, and removing out-of-date products.
  • Maintain correct department signage and pricing.
  • Ensure that all shelves and displays are properly stocked.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when addressing questions about the location of items.
  • Assists with sampling program.
  • Ensure grocery department is clean, with swept floors and maintain sanitization logs.
  • Operate all grocery equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Answer department telephone calls and pages quickly and with excellent phone etiquette.
  • Oversee sampling of department products to customers.
  • Staying informed on new products introduced and to effectively share with the customers.
  • Ensure back areas and coolers well maintained, organized and dated.
  • All waste, department transfers, and store transfers documented immediately.
  • Assist in monthly inventory.
  • Aware of current sales, margins and action plan from team leaders.
  • Proper receiving as per company guidelines followed.
  • Demonstrate proper use, care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist in cross merchandise with other departments.
  • Execute all cleaning and maintenance schedules.
  • Attend all department, store and training meetings.
  • Accept and check all products from receiver.
  • Answer telephone with proper etiquette and urgency.
  • Perform other duties delegated by team leaders and store leaders.
  • Available for night and weekends.
  • Able to select substitute products for customers if needed.
  • Assist online grocery ordering department.
  • Follow and comply with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adhere to safe work practices.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Team player with a "Can-do" ownership mentality.
  • Excellent Merchandiser.
  • Managerial or supervisory experience in a related industry.
  • Food Safety Mini Course certification (available through Sunterra).
  • WHMIS Certification (available through Sunterra).
  • A strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service and fostering a positive team atmosphere.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Managerial or supervisory skills.
  • Understanding of budgeting and sales analysis.
  • Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time/part-time, hourly position that requires a range of availability including weekends and holidays.
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Some exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions.
  • May walk and work on uneven surfaces.
  • Requires some reaching above and below shoulder height.
  • Repetitive use of hands with power grasping and fine manipulation.
  • May need to use a ladder or stool to reach product or supplies.
  • Some exposure to continuous background and occasional loud noises.
  • Repetitive stretching and lifting required.
  • Lifting of items up to 40 pounds (over 40 requires a team lift).
