JOB SUMMARY:
The Buyer is responsible for managing assigned commodities and finished products using strategic processes. Key duties include cost reduction strategies, quality and delivery improvement, and participation in special projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage suppliers for assigned portfolio, including finished goods, raw materials, component parts, and production services, ensuring quality, service, and cost benchmarks.
- Analyze requisitions, specifications, and system reports to determine quantities and delivery dates; communicate technical and logistical requirements to vendors.
- Manage existing outside processes/suppliers and issue Purchase Orders as required by Kanban and MRP/MPS reports.
- Create debit memos for returning defective parts to vendors.
- Track material deliveries and liaise with internal and external resources to meet requirements.
- Resolve issues related to quality, delivery dates, quantity, and invoicing of purchased commodities.
- Respond to expedite requests for portfolio items and provide delivery status information.
- Implement strategies to reduce costs, improve quality and delivery performance, and enhance the company's competitive position.
- Support the sourcing team and QA in reviewing and qualifying existing and new suppliers.
- Restructure supplier relationships and material flow to improve vendor processing.
- Assist Commodity Managers and Regional Sourcing in maintaining material requirements.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements, cost, and inventory reductions.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal customers and key suppliers.
- Participate in or lead special projects in the sourcing area.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Manager.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Purchasing or related field, or relevant practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Purchasing, Material Control, or related fields.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience in Lean manufacturing, distribution, and logistics.
- Understanding of customs compliance requirements and importation rules for globally sourced vendors.
- Strong leadership and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Background in Manufacturing is an asset.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage working relationships with Sales, Customer Service, Distribution, Plant Operations, and customers to optimize distribution and enhance customer service.
