You'll play a key role in critical project phases, from Basic Engineering and Detailed Engineering to Construction, gaining hands-on experience across a variety of commodities. We are currently seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Intermediate Instrumentation Engineer to be based in either Burlington or the Calgary office. If you’re the right person for the job, we are open to discussing you being located in another office location.

About The Role

  • Collaborate with the engineering and design team from FEED stage through scoping and detailed engineering to construction support.
  • Develop capital cost estimates for feasibility study and detail engineering proposals.
  • Monitor costs associated with the selection, cost and installation of instrumentation and control system equipment.
  • Design instrumentation-related engineering deliverables, i.e., instrument list / index, IO list, standard installation details, location drawings, datasheets, wiring drawings, loop drawings, P&ID's, material requisitions, evaluation of alternatives and selection of instruments, calculations (control valve, flow elements, pressure safety valves), document control logs, MTOs / bill of materials and instrument change approvals, construction work packages.
  • Design controls-related engineering deliverables, i.e., network architecture drawings, fibre optic communication block diagrams, junction box termination drawings, IO panels layout & termination drawings, logic drawings, termination/ wiring diagrams, block diagrams, panel layouts, control system topology/ control system architecture, functional description & control narrative, and instrumentation and controls and fibre optics / communication cable schedule.
  • Prepare packages for Process control system – PLC / DCS, all types of field instruments and control valves.
  • Participate in HAZOP reviews and in other technical, constructability and quality reviews.

About You

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation and Instrumentation or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience as an instrumentation and control engineer in heavy industry is required.
  • Registered with P.E.O. as a P.Eng or eligible to register with P.E.O. as a P.Eng. within the next year.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical, communication (oral and written) and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary project team, including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation and CAD support.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, regulations, and practices.
  • Familiarity with hardware requirements of PLC, SCADA and DCS control systems.
  • Knowledge of Industrial IT, including Ethernet networking systems is an asset.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as DNP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, IEC 61850 is an asset.
  • Previous experience in mining projects, as well as experience in Smart Instrumentation, Smart P & ID would be an advantage.
