Shop Helper

SOUTHLAND Transportation is looking for a Shop Helper to join our team. The successful candidate will be accountable to the Maintenance Manager for performing all assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner, working in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company policies.

This is a full-time position with a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Wage: $20.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Movement and washing of fleet vehicles
• Assist mechanics with maintenance and repairs on buses
• Wiper blade replacement, light bulb changes, and other small tasks to complete DVCR’s
• Support spring and winter maintenance activities
• Complete documentation related to equipment repairs
• Start buses on cold mornings
• Maintain shop cleanliness and organize tools
• Perform building and yard maintenance tasks
• Various other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license
• Previous shop experience (an asset)
• Mechanical aptitude
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Work boots and small tool kit
• Proficiency with power and hand tools
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat for repairs and inspections
• Comfort working in a shop environment with noise, fumes, and varying temperatures
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
