Title: Advisor, Crisis and Emergency Response

Salary: $72,841 - $91,051 - $100,156 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)

Location: Fort St. John and/or Northeastern BC – Hybrid working is an option in line with FNHA’s flex work policy, or Remote.

About The Role

As Advisor, Crisis and Emergency Response, you’ll play a key role in supporting First Nations communities in the North during crises and emergencies. You'll provide expert advisory and response support, leading the coordination of timely, holistic, and culturally grounded emergency management efforts. You will develop and implement crisis action plans, strengthen response capacity using both traditional and Western approaches, and ensure that emergency protocols are effective and evolving. Your work will not only enhance crisis response but also inform prevention strategies and long-term community resilience.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have/be –

Education

  • A diploma or degree in Public Health, Disaster and Emergency Management, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 2-5 years of recent and relevant experience, including providing advice and recommendations on health or emergency preparedness to senior management.
  • Experience in emergency planning, response, or management, preferably within a First Nations context.
  • Formal training or qualifications in health emergency management, as well as experience working with First Nations communities and/or organizations are assets.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of holistic health, including mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, as well as the social determinants of health in rural and remote First Nations communities.
  • Knowledge of best practices in emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, as well as hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with community engagement and development processes, particularly within First Nations communities in the Northern region.
  • Understanding of colonization and Indigenous peoples history in Canada, and its impact on health and wellness.
  • Knowledge of ethical requirements for documenting mental wellness records, including crisis response protocols.

The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours.

Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.

The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level. Internal employee compensation will be determined as per the FNHA Employee Total Compensation Policy.
